Romney readies portrait for Statehouse walls

BOSTON -- A reminder of former Gov. Mitt Romney is about to hang in the Statehouse.

The Republican leader has spent $10,000 to have his official portrait painted. Once finished, it will be placed in the lobby outside the governor's office.

Campaign finance records show the former presidential contender paid New Hampshire artist Richard Whitney for the painting last month. He also paid $90 to his former gubernatorial photographer Abby Brack for photos to use to develop the picture.

By tradition, Romney's portrait will hang next to that of former acting Gov. Jane Swift, who has clashed with her fellow Republican.

It also will trigger a reshuffling that sends the oldest portrait in the lobby, in this case of John Volpe, into the Statehouse halls, where the portraits of other former governors hang.
