Olympic swimmer Beard sues tanning salon company
LOS ANGELES -- Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard has sued a tanning salon company in California, claiming it used her name and likeness without permission.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court claims ProSun posted the swimmer's picture on its Web site "to create the impression that Beard endorses ProSun products."
Beard, a multiple Olympic gold medalist, is seeking more than $25,000 in monetary and punitive damages.
The lawsuit was first reported by celebrity Web site TMZ.com, which said a spokesman for ProSun claims the company took the photos of Beard in question at a charity event and has the right to use them as it wishes.
