Manny: Red Sox don't deserve a player like me

BOSTON -- His Red Sox teammates are taking a wait-and-see approach to reports that Manny Ramirez could get traded before Thursday's deadline.

After the team's 9-2 loss to the LA Angels, catcher Jason Varitek said "It's totally out of our hands."

In an interview earlier Wednesday with ESPNdeportes.com, Ramirez said "The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me." He also said he's seen how the Red Sox "have mistreated other great players." He wasn't available for comment before or after last night's game.

Reports surfaced during the game that the Red Sox and Florida were talking about a trade before Thursday's 4 p.m. deadline. Red Sox owner John Henry and general manager Theo Epstein didn't respond to e-mail requests for comment. But Marlins president David Samson wasn't ruling it out.

Ramirez is in the final guaranteed year of his $160 million, eight-year contract with Boston.

The Red Sox, who have a $20 million option on Ramirez for next year, are off Thursday.
