Brady's impending fatherhood generating both jokes and controversy

UNDATED -- Critics and comedians are having a good time with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s attitude about being becoming a dad out of wedlock.

One day after speaking for the first about the challenges and responsibilities of his impending fatherhood, the football star is taking some heat.

Jay Leno took his shot on TV last night.

"Easy way to see if your wife may have given birth to another man's child: if she's wearing a Tom Brady football jersey,” the comedian joked on “"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

Also, Brady’s hearing criticism from a Massachusetts candidate for Congress. Kevin Thompson is running on the ultra-conservative constitution party ticket.

In a posting on his blog, he said, "Many millions of small, adoring fans look up to Brady, only to find him chasing models, fathering children out of wedlock and unashamedly engaging in an immoral lifestyle."

Thompson then challenged Brady’s future fathering skills, asking, "What is manly or praise-worthy of a man... forcing a woman to raise her child without a loving, present, father?"

The press has painted No. 12 as a man caught with his pants down, when his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan revealed she was pregnant with his child.

Moynahan broke the baby news to Brady just after he started dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

In a recent interview, Brady said becoming be father will be a challenge, but he's ready to take it on as his other full-time job. Brady also said he is sometimes bothered by the things people say about him, but he doesn't take them to heart.

Bridget Moynahan is due to give birth in the late summer.

They have not revealed whether the baby is a boy or a girl.
