Red Sox CF Ellsbury ejected after throwing helmet
BOSTON -- Jacoby Ellsbury has been ejected from Boston's game with Kansas City after bouncing his helmet hard when he was called out at home plate.
With runners at first and third in the fifth inning Friday night, the Red Sox center fielder tried to score when Mark Kotsay was caught in a rundown attempting to steal. Ellsbury appeared to slide into the plate before Miguel Olivo could tag him, but Derryl Cousins called him out and immediately ejected him when he threw the helmet.
Manager Terry Francona argued but was not ejected. The game was scoreless going into the sixth inning.
