After strong game, Meriweather stays humble

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather sees improvement in the team's secondary after one of the best games of his career.

But he said Wednesday he hasn't peaked and can use this bye week to work on fundamentals and get even better.

The third-year pro who starred at Miami had two interceptions in last Sunday's 35-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London. He returned one of them for a 39-yard touchdown on the fifth play of the game. But he said he's missed too many tackles this season.

Meriweather had trouble holding on to the ball as a rookie then made four interceptions last year. Now he's emerged as a hard-hitting leader in the secondary on a defense that had a major overhaul in the offseason.
