Secret Service apprehends White House fence jumper

WASHINGTON -- The Secret Service on Saturday apprehended a man who climbed over the fence along the North Lawn of the White House.

Around 6:30 p.m. EDT, Alexis Janicki, 24, jumped the fence, said Secret Service spokeswoman Kim Bruce. He was immediately apprehended by the Secret Service uniformed division and taken into custody.

Janicki was charged with trespassing and possession of a controlled substance, which was cannabis, Bruce said. He was turned over to the District of Columbia's Metropolitan Police Department for processing.

President Bush was at the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland when the incident occurred.
