Philanthropist promises to pay for scholarships
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Rhode Island philanthropist is offering to pay the college scholarships of dozens of students who were promised the money by The Education Partnership.
The a nonprofit advocacy organization went into receivership in June and the scholarship offers withdrawn.
Now Alan Shawn Feinstein says he is concerned that several students will be unable to attend college unless they receive the $2,000 scholarships.
He says he's troubled that several hundred thousand dollars in a scholarship fund he established 15 years ago, overseen by The Education Partnership, is apparently missing.
A receiver in charge of The Education Partnership's finances has said the organization's records are in disarray.
