Worcester teacher charged with statutory rape

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Police have charged a Worcester teacher with rape after he had a relationship with a 15-year-old boy.

Officials said they arrested Tyrone Forbes, 49, after a police officer on patrol spotted a pickup truck parked in the closed Bennett Field parking lot on Main Street around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Police said the 15-year-old boy was inside of the truck with Forbes.

After questioning Forbes and the teen, officers determined there had been a sexual relationship between the two since November.

Forbes, who is a friend of the boy's family, is charged with seven counts of rape of a child. He pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday.

In addition to teaching music at Seven Hills Charter School since 2003, Forbes is also an elder at Mount Sinai Church of God.

"We take this situation very seriously. The staff member involved has immediately been placed on leave and has been instructed not to return to school property," said the school's spokesperson, Donna Pisciotta in a statement.

Forbes was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail and ordered him to not have contact with the 15-year-old boy.
