Amtrak train trouble causes delays on commuter rail Monday night

WESTWOOD, Mass. -- Trouble with an Amtrak train caused a ripple effect of delays on the commuter rail Monday, but service is back up and running Tuesday morning.

Trains were shut down between Route 128 and Canton. Hundreds of commuters had to be bussed from the 128 Station to Canton Station to resume their commute home.

Officials said the trouble started with the train's pantograph, which is the gear on top of the train that connects the engine with the power line.

The pantograph on an inbound Acela tore up the lines. The problem stopped traffic in both directions.

Trains were going both ways on one of the tracks Monday night.
