MBTA launches courtesy campaign on subway, buses
BOSTON -- The MBTA is asking commuters to mind their manners.
The transit agency on Tuesday put posters on 600 subway cars and 400 buses to remind riders to pick up trash, tone it down on the phone, offer seats to those who need them, and let people off before climbing on.
The program asking commuters to be courteous, kind and considerate was launched after the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority asked more than 100 volunteer riders to keep "transit journals" last year. The posters address the most common complaints.
T General Manager Daniel Grabauskas tells The Boston Globe that part of the problem is more crowded buses and trolleys spurred by higher gas prices.
One poster urges passengers to "Be Sweet. Offer Your Seat." Another says "Don't Drone on the Phone."
