Boston College launches $1.5B fundraising drive

BOSTON -- Boston College is launching a $1.5 billion fundraising drive to pay for campus-wide construction projects and expand financial aid.

The fundraising drive is the largest in the school's history and will also help fund academic programs and allow the school to hire more faculty.

The largest portion of the goal, $575 million, will go toward expanding academic programs while another $300 million will go to financial aid.

University president, the Rev. William Leahy, says the school hopes to nearly double the number of undergraduate donors making gifts to Boston College every year and increase the number of estate commitments to the school to 5,000.

Leahy also hopes to double the number of alumni volunteering at the university.
