Commuter rail to get WiFi on all trains
BOSTON -- Wireless Internet access will soon be available on every coach traveling on the MBTA's commuter rail lines.
On Friday, Lt. Gov. Tim Murray announced that the agency's board approved a $1.4 million plan to install WiFi on the 258 coaches.
Free wireless Internet access has already been available on the Worcester/Framingham line to Boston's South Station since January as part of a pilot program.
Installation of the wireless equipment will start in December and should be done by late spring. Officials say that after the initial $1.4 million is paid, it will cost $300,000 annually to maintain.
