Scouts return womans purse lost 4 years ago

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- A local Boy Scout troop earned some high honors for what they did when they found a purse filled with a lot of credit cards and cash.

The North Andover Boy Scout troop found a wallet with $600 while on a canoeing trip in Maine.

Four years ago, a trip down the Saco River turned into a costly vacation for Michael and Delia Dionne. Their canoe capsized with their keys, money, and cards inside.

The Dionnes thought they would never see that purse again, but that changed thanks to the honesty of some local troop members.

Nick Cote and Kyle Skelton were on a Boy Scout trip to clean up the river when they discovered the purse. They laid the $600 on the rocks to dry.

They sought out the owners and met them Tuesday night.

For Kyle's dad, Tim Skelton, the troop's leader, it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Scout's honor."

"This is a great example of you do the right thing, you do the honorable thing in a situation," said Skelton.

The couple donated half of what was left of the money, $100 was destroyed by water damage, to the Boy Scouts who then donated it to a local elementary school for a nature trail.
