Delahunt, Lynch oppose Senate-passed bailout bill

WASHINGTON -- Massachusetts congressmen William Delahunt and Stephen Lynch say they are standing firm against a Senate-passed 700 billion dollar financial industry bailout bill.

Delahunt and Lynch say they won't switch their votes on the bill because it doesn't ease the burden on taxpayers picking up the tab for Wall Street's problems.

A vote could come as early as today.

Delahunt, Lynch and John Tierney were the only House members from Massachusetts who bucked their Democratic leadership and voted against the bailout plan narrowly rejected Monday. That bill did not include tax cuts and other sweeteners that boosted passage in the Senate on Wednesday.

Delahunt and Lynch say while some of the sweeteners are helpful, taxpayers would still be overburdened with the cost. A spokeswoman for Tierney says the congressman has not made up his mind yet.
