Babysitter cited for not restraining kids in her car

ASHLAND, Mass. -- Three young children are recovering in the hospital after their 19-year-old babysitter crashed into a telephone pole on Thursday afternoon.

Yohanna Quezada, of Framingham, will not face any criminal charges, but she has been cited by police for failing to properly restrain the three children in her care.

The 19-year-old babysitter was traveling on East Union Street in Ashland just after 3 p.m. when she slammed into a telephone pole.

She told police she was distracted at the time of the crash by one of the children who was trying to get out of his car seat.

Police say that all three children, ages 18-months, three and five, should have been in car seats.

There was only one car seat and a booster in the back seat. Additionally, authorities say the seats were not properly installed and one of the children was sharing a seatbelt with either the booster or the car seat.

Two of the children were taken by Medflight helicopter to the hospital.

The babysitter has been released from the hospital. The three children are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
