Potato chip bag leads police to break-in suspect
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- An empty bag of potato chips led police to break-in suspect Tuesday.
Surveillance video shows a thief using the lid of a trash can to break into AV's Market on Beaver Street in Framingham around 2:30 a.m. The suspect went over to the counter and attempted to steal change from the store's register.
He dropped more than half of the change on the floor and even more outside in the parking lot.
The suspect also dropped an empty bag of potato chips inside the store, which led to his arrest.
Earlier in the morning, Framingham police say they questioned 23-year-old Tyrease Slaughter who was eating from a bag of Mystic potato chips. Officers say Slaughter was drunk, but he wasn't doing anything wrong, so they let him go.
Fifteen minutes later, police responded to AV's Market. The suspect in the break-in dropped the same type of potato chips that Slaughter had been eating eating.
The store did not sell that brand of potato chips, and a check of the surveillance video confirmed their suspicions. The thief's clothing matched what Slaughter was wearing when police questioned him.
It took police a few hours to find slaughter.
A woman called police saying a man was asleep in her car.
When they arrived, they found Slaughter sleeping and arrested him.
