Drugs are found in car of Newton Fire Chief

NEWTON, Mass. -- Newton Fire Chief, Joseph Lacroix, is fighting back against the discovery of marijuana found in his city issued car.

Lacroix stated, “I had absolutely no knowledge, of the drugs being in my car.”

The firefighters who found the illegal substance contacted Lacroix, He in turned called Newton City Hall.

Lacroix turned the information over to Marlboro police, where Lacroix is a resident.

The Newton Mayor’s office stands behind Lacroix stating, “We are very confident that Chief Lacroix is not in the habit of possess of illegal drugs, we are very confident he at no time impaired public safety by using illicit drugs.”

Lacroix believes the marijuana found inside his vehicle, maybe connected to a family member of his.

Marlboro police are investigating the incident.

This latest incident involving the Newton Fire Department comes after a Newton firefighter was arrested in Dorchester for allegedly buying heroin.

Newton City Hall confirmed that the city issued vehicle that was only to be used by Lacroix and for official city business.
