Funnel cloud spotted near Barrington
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The National Weather Service has extended a tornado warning into Plymouth County in Massachusetts, as thunderstorms move through the area and after a funnel cloud was spotted off Barrington.
The weather service says trained weather spotters saw a water spout off Barrington Beach Wednesday afternoon. The cloud was moving northeast at 39 miles an hour.
It issued a tornado warning until 5 p.m. for parts of Plymouth and Bristol counties in Massachusetts, including Taunton and Plymouth.
A tornado warning for parts of Bristol, Kent and Providence counties in Rhode Island was scheduled to expire at 4:45 p.m.
Authorities are advising people to stay inside and take shelter in a small interior room on the lowest floor or in the basement, and to stay away from windows.
