Human remains found in Fitchburg
FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Authorities are investigating the discovery or human remains in a wooded area of Fitchburg.
Police say the skeletal remains were found Friday in the rear of the 600 block of Water Street by two children playing.
Police say they have been there for anywhere from six months to two years.
The remains have been handed over to the medical examiner.
Police Chief Robert Chief DeMoura hopes that DNA testing will help identify the remains, a process that could take up to two weeks.
He said investigators worked over the weekend collecting evidence. He says city residents should not be concerned about their safety and appealed to the public for information that might lead to identification of the remains.
