Boston lightning strike injures 10 at soccer match
BOSTON -- Authorities say 10 people watching a soccer game were injured when the tree they had sought shelter under was struck by lightning during an intense thunderstorm.
Boston EMS officials say the victims were taken to various hospitals Sunday with burns consistent with lightning strikes. The youngest was 13 years old, while the oldest was in his 40s.
Five people remain in intensive care Monday, though all are expected to survive. Three others have been released from the hospital.
The storm struck about 3:30 p.m. during a men's soccer game at Dorchester's Franklin Field.
Witness Hector Rivera says victims were falling "like bricks."
EMS deputy supervisor Michael Bosse says he can't remember 10 people being struck by lightning at once.
