EASTON, Mass. -- The driver responsible for a hit-and-run accident that killed a man on Saturday morning was arraigned in court on Wednesday.

John McCarthy, 58, was walking south on Washington Street at about 4:50 a.m. when he was fatally struck by a car.

His body was found in the area of 140 Washington Street and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Michael Faria, 33, of Stoughton, turned himself in to police after a four day search for the driver.

Faria was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after causing death, operating to endanger and motor vehicle homicide.

Prosecutors said that Faria was drinking and text messaging at the time of the crash. He was ordered held on $50,000 cash bail.
