Toddler burned in Mass. fireworks accident
LEOMINSTER, Mass. -- Authorities say a New Hampshire toddler was seriously burned by fireworks in Leominster after an illegal display by his father went awry.
Deputy Fire Chief Gary Ranno said the 3-year-old boy suffered second and third degree burns over 20 percent over his body, including his legs, face and hands.
The Merrimack, N.H., boy was treated at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. His condition was not immediately available Saturday.
Police Lt. Michael Goldman said 37-year-old Sean Maloney was shooting fireworks from a bucket Friday night near a house where the family was staying.
Goldman said the bucket fell over, and two fireworks hit Maloney's son as he sat on a swing.
Goldman said police will likely charge Maloney with illegal possession of fireworks, at minimum. Maloney could not be reached for comment Saturday.
