Mother in cancer case lost custody of older child
SALEM, Mass. -- The mother charged with failing to give her 8-year-old son his cancer medication had prior involvement with state child welfare officials, and in one case lost custody of an older child.
A spokeswoman for the state Department of Social Services says the now 16-year-old child was removed from the custody of Kristen Anne LaBrie several years ago.
LaBrie was arraigned earlier this week on a child endangerment charge for allegedly failing to provide her autistic son, Jeremy Fraser, with all his medications for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. She pleaded not guilty and is free on personal recognizance.
DSS has investigated the boy's parents for abuse or neglect allegations four times since 2005 and police reports show a troubled household. His parents are estranged and he is currently in the custody of his father, Eric Fraser.
