Police seek man in robberies, chase, cruiser ramming

WINCHESTER, N.H. -- Police are looking for a man who rammed a police cruiser while being chased through Massachusetts and New Hampshire Tuesday night after two store robberies and a gas theft.

New Hampshire State Police said police were investigating a gasoline theft in Chesterfield, New Hampshire, and armed robberies at stores in Dummerston, Vermont and Winchester, New Hampshire, when they got word that the vehicle involved had been spotted in Bernardston, Massachusetts. Police chased the small dumptruck up and down Interstate 91 in Massachusetts, then into New Hampshire, where they say the driver rammed a state police cruiser in Winchester.

The driver bailed out after crashing into a ditch and eluded a search that involved SWAT teams, police dogs and police helicopters. Police say the suspect later got away in an SUV stolen in Winchester. They warn that he is armed and dangerous.

The truck had been reported stolen in Connecticut.
