MBTA works to replace tracks on local bridge
BOSTON -- MBTA trains were ordered to slow down while traveling over the Longfellow Bridge because of the bridge's condition.
Officials said the Red Line's railroad ties that extend over the bridge are in such bad shape and need to be replaced immediately.
Last week, trains were told to slow down while crossing the bridge.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said that for the next two weekends, Red Line service would be suspended while workers replace the tracks and ties. Buses will replace Red Line service between Kendall and Park Street Stations both weekends.
