Trolley crash investigators reach out to passengers
BOSTON -- Investigators probing the fatal trolley accident in Newton are reaching out to passengers who were on the Green Line train.
The MBTA, in collaboration with the National Transportation Safety Board, is asking anyone who was on the train last Wednesday to contact authorities. The same plea has been issued to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, which killed trolley operator Terrese Edmonds and injured about a dozen passengers.
Meanwhile, MBTA operators are being reminded today about a policy against using cell phones while on duty.
Under the policy, a first offense results in a three-day suspension and a second offense brings a ten-day suspension. A third offense is cause for dismissal.
Investigators have been trying to determine if Edmonds was using a cell phone around the time of the accident.
The telephone number for passengers to call is 617-222-5135.
