Another bomb threat at Mashpee High leads to increased security

MASHPEE, Mass. -- Students will be back at Mashpee High School Friday after a written bomb threat cancelled classes Thursday.

The threat was the fifth at the school in the past six weeks.

A note claimed a bomb was somewhere on school property.

Around 8 a.m., the principal made an announcement over the loudspeaker, telling students and teachers to pull down the shades and stay in their rooms. Ten minutes later, he dismissed school for the day.

Thursday's threat was deemed more credible than prior ones.

Officials searched the school but did not find anything suspicious.

An automated phone message was sent to parents, informing them of yet another bomb threat and explaining that the best decision was to send students home.

At least one of the previous notes specifically mentioned Friday's date of Feb. 15.

As a result, extra security will be on hand at the school today.
