NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -- Police in New Bedford say a 22-year-old man was fatally shot and a second man was wounded as they sat in a car in the city.
Lieutenant Jeffrey Silva said shots were fired into the vehicle early Sunday morning at Purchase and Potomska streets.
William Payne, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was killed. The second man, whose name was not released, was flown to a Boston hospital and is expected to recover.
Silva says both men had "gang affiliations," but it was too early to determine a motive for the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
It was the second homicide of the year in New Bedford. A 15-year-old boy, Edwin Medina, was fatally shot during a New Year's Eve party.
