Drivers to be greeted with New Year's toll hikes
BOSTON-- Drivers hitting the Massachusetts Turnpike will be greeted on New Year's Day with a new round of toll increases.
As of Tuesday, tolls at the Allston-Brighton and Route 128 interchanges will go from $1 to $1.25. And tolls at the Ted Williams and Sumner tunnels will go from $3 to $3.50.
Drivers with Fast Lane transponders will get a 25-cent discount at the 128 interchange and a 50-cent break in the harbor tunnels.
Turnpike spokesman Mac Daniel says the increases will be used to meet the demands of bond covenants the agency has on the roadway.
