Milwaukee official says Flynn favorite for police post
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The city of Milwaukee is expected to choose a new police commissioner on Thursday, and one alderman says he would be very surprised if Springfield Police Commissioner Ed Flynn isn't offered the job.
The former Massachusetts public safety secretary is one of five finalists for the job in Milwaukee.
Alderman Robert Donovan told the Republican newspaper of Springfield that the Common Council voted last week to raise the salary of the police commissioner, which some saw as a move to lure Flynn to Milwaukee.
Even with the raise, however, Flynn would still earn slightly less if he took the Milwaukee job than his current $155,000 annual salary.
Flynn is 20 months into a five-year contract as Springfield's top cop.
Mayor-elect Domenic Sarno says he would favor promoting Deputy Police Chief William Fitchet if Flynn leaves.
