Woman, grandson attacked in Dartmouth laundromat
DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- A 54-year-old woman and her 10-year-old grandson were shaken up after being robbed on the job.
The incident happened at Summit Grove Laundry located on 403 State Rd. in North Dartmouth.
Police said a male suspect armed with a large knife, burst into the woman's laundromat and then went on the attack. The suspect demanded money.
The victim, Susan Durfee, gave him all the money, but he demanded more.
According to officials, the attendant yelled to her grandson to leave and get help. He fled through a back door and ran to a friend's house, which was several blocks away.
While he ran to get help, Durfee put up a fight. She threw a chair at the suspect and fought off his knife. Durfee suffered lacerations to her hands.
The fight continued for a short time until the suspect fled the scene, said Durfee.
Dartmouth Police said they do not recommend fighting with armed robbers, but Susan said it she thought it was her only chance to stay alive.
Police conducted an extensive search for the suspect, but could not locate him. He's described as a white male, about 5'5" tall, weighs approximately 140 pounds, and has short brown hair and brown eyes.
