Former riding instructor now facing federal charges
BOSTON -- An equestrian trainer from Swansea, already facing statutory rape and other state charges, is now facing federal charges as well.
A spokeswoman for the FBI says Joseph Silva was arrested by U.S. Marshals on charges of production, distribution and possession of child pornography. The 32-year-old Silva is scheduled for an initial appearance Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Boston.
In April, a Bristol County Grand Jury returned a 22-count indictment charging the former horseback riding instructor and stable owner with statutory rape, posing a child and possession of child pornography. He was ordered held in home confinement until his trial, which has yet to be scheduled.
