Cape Cod Commission rejects wind farm
BARNSTABLE, Mass. -- The Cape Cod Commission has voted to deny a plan to build 130 wind turbines in Nantucket Sound.
A commission subcommittee recommended the denial, saying Cape Wind Associates was unwilling to provide more time and information.
But the company says it provided exhaustive amounts of information about the project, which has already cleared previous hurdles.
The project would still need federal approval before moving forward.
Earlier this year, the state's environmental secretary Ian Bowles, approved Cape Wind's environmental impact report.
Cape Wind President Jim Gordon says the company with fight the commission's decision.
Proponents of the project say it will provide Cape Cod with much needed clean energy.
But opponents say the wind farm would be a visual blight, and harm the region's tourism and fishing industries.
