Community hit with hate graffiti

CARVER, Mass. -- Carver Police are investigating a rash of vandalism that appears to be racially motivated.

Residents awoke Monday morning to find filthy, perverted and hateful messages spray painted on their homes and cars.

"Its pretty frustrating that someone had the nerve to walk onto your property and vandalize your property," Victor Meservey, car was vandalized, said.

Meservey's vehicle was spray painted Sunday night. They also spray painted a racial slur and a swastika onto a wood fence, as well as street signs.

Authorities believe that the vandalism may be a teenage prank. However, police say that because one of the victims is black, the racial slurs have prompted officials to categorize the graffiti as a hate crime.

"I hope whoever is found guilty of this, and they probably will be because they're probably not the brightest individuals, I hope they prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law," Meservey said.

Carver Police say that whether or not the graffiti is the result of a teen park, they are prepared to throw the book at who ever is responsible.

Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is encouraged to contact Carver Police at 508-866-2000.
