13-year-old shot to death in Boston

BOSTON -- Boston police say a 13-year-old boy shot and killed in Dorchester was not the intended target.

Steven Odom was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center after being shot just before 8 p.m. on Evans Street.

The boy's uncle says his nephew was coming home from playing basketball when he was shot.

Mayor Tom Menino says the city needs to remain united in its commitment to end violence. He also expressed condolences to the Odom family.

The boy's death marks the 52nd murder in Boston so far this year.

No arrests have been reported.

Friends and family members say the 8th grader enjoyed basketball and playing the drums. Neighbors say the boy's father runs a ministry at a nearby middle school on Sundays.
