Mother facing charges after abandoning child in car
BOSTON -- A mother is facing serious charges after abandoning her child in Wellesley.
An 18-month-old girl was left inside of a car, while her mother was out running errands, authorities said. The mother left the child alone for about ten minutes.
"We had a 911 call from a female who was walking on Church St. and noticed an infant sleeping in a motor vehicle that was unattended", said Sgt. Marie Cleary of the Wellesley Police Dept. "The windows were open in the motor vehicle."
When police arrived, they reached through the open window and took the sleeping infant out of the car. Shortly after, the mother arrived and witnesses said that's when the commotion started.
"She was pretty hysterical," said Paula Salerno, a witness.
The mother told police she quickly ran into the store to run an errand, and that the child was sleeping.
Police charged the mother with endangerment of a child, but let her leave with the baby.
