Dramatic 911 call rescues five-month-old baby
CHELSEA, Mass. -- A 911 operator became a hero Sunday when a mom called, scared her five-month-old baby was dead.
According to Paul Koolloian, the mom said "the baby wasn't breathing. I found after that it had something to do with the shower or bathtub."
Koolloian, working dispatch, knew exactly what to do.
"Bring the baby over to the telephone," he told the mother. " I want you to cover his mouth and his nose, and blow two short breaths into his mouth and his nose."
By the time firefighters arrived at 163 Chester St., the baby had stopped breathing again. The firefighters managed to make the baby cry. Water came out of her mouth and nose.
It's not clear how long the baby was underwater. The water she spit up was full of soap. She was rushed to Mass. General Hospital. According to firefighters, she survived the ordeal.
