Man convicted in gang killing
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- A North Adams man faces life behind bars when he's sentenced later this morning for the murder of a rival gang member.
A Berkshire Superior Court jury yesterday convicted 28-year-old James Smith of the July 2006 shooting death of 31-year-old Kijona Osmond in a North Adams apartment.
Prosecutors said Smith was a member of the Crips street gang, Osmond a member of the Bloods gang.
Assistant District Attorney Paul Caccaviello said the killing was an execution.
The jury deliberated for about two-and-a-half days before returning the verdict, which carries a mandatory life sentence in prison.
