Cars damaged on I-93 in latest highway mishap
MILTON, Mass. -- Loose grates and manhole covers have been a problem for motorists in eastern Massachusetts highways in recent days.
Two cars were damaged late last night when a cover came loose from a manhole on Interstate 93 in Milton. One car lost control and struck the median while the other vehicle sustained two flat tires. Neither driver was hurt, said state police.
A manhole cover also came loose in the same area of the highway during the Monday morning rush hour.
By far the most serious of the recent incidents came on Route 128 in Westwood last week when a 250-pound grate flew off a storm drain and crashed through the windshield of a car. The driver suffered serious injuries in the accident.
