Mass. carjacking suspect killed in R.I.

WARWICK, R.I. -- Authorities are continuing their probe into a two-state carjacking incident that ended with an officer fatally shooting the female suspect.

It all started early yesterday morning in Attleboro when the woman -- later identified as 49-year-old Attleboro resident Bridget DeGrafft-Baron -- allegedly stole a black Honda from two men at knifepoint.

Police across the border in Rhode Island spotted the vehicle on Interstate 95 and gave chase. State Police joined in.

A State Police spokesman says police officers first fired on the female driver after she steered the Honda up an embankment, then back down at police.

The chase continued into Warwick, where DeGrafft-Baron finally crashed.

Authorities say a Pawtucket police officer fatally shot the suspect when he got caught between his cruiser and the Honda. The officer has not been identified.
