LACONIA, N.H. -- Authorities are investigating an inmate suicide at the Belknap County Jail in Laconia.
Sheriff Craig Wiggin said 30-year-old Gene Batchelder of Laconia hanged himself in his cell on Sunday. Corrections officers were not able to revive him.
Wiggin says Batchelder apparently was distraught over some personal issues.
He had pleaded guilty to assault, obstructing the report of a crime and criminal threatening.
