T service resumes on the Red Line after train tie-ups
BOSTON -- Delays on the Red Line continued on Tuesday afternoon due to an earlier power outage at the Harvard Square T stop.
A broken transformer on the tracks temporarily shut down service from Park Street downtown all the way to the end of the line at Alewife. Nearly 2,000 people had to be evacuated.
MBTA buses shuttled passengers between stops.
The situation was made worse from the increased, holiday traffic.
"Smokey, chaos, controlled chaos," transit policeman Sal Venturelli said of the scene.
Trains have since resumed running.
