Drummer believed to be found dead in Fairhaven
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. -- A disturbing discovery may be the end of the search for a missing Hamilton man.
Just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, a body was discovered about 150 feet off the coast of Buzzards Bay in Fairhaven.
Chief Timothy Francis of the Fairhaven Fire Department said the clothes on the body matched the description of the man they had been looking for.
"It is pretty clear that it is [Pike]," said Chief Francis.
John Pike, 23, of Hamilton, was last seen leaving a residence on Wilbur's Point in Fairhaven around 3 a.m. on Saturday. He went to the small gathering with a friend from Fairhaven and left the party on foot.
His last contact was a text message to his girlfriend early Saturday morning.
Chief Gary Souza of the Fairhaven Police Department said there had been no reports so far of Pike having been involving in any altercations that night.
"He at times would walk out alone for a little while, but it doesn't appear at this point to be any fights, any threats, anything like that involved," said Chief Souza. "As far as alcohol or any other controlled substance involved, I'd rather let the autopsy determine that."
His cell phone was found on a beach less than half a mile from the house.
Pike reportedly is not familiar with the Fairhaven area.
His family arrived from Hamilton to help with the search.
