A happy homecoming for a boy dealing with a dangerous disease

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- A five-year old who is suffering from a rare muscular disease now has more "room to dream" after a his room was renovated by volunteers.

Ben Elwy spent a week at Children's Hospital in Boston, recovering from a bout of pneumonia and a collapsed lung. When he returned from the hospital, he found that his room had been decorated with his favorite thing: air planes.

A volunteer group called "Room to Dream" re-vamped the Elwy home, making it easier for Ben to move around.

"We try to do everything we can for Ben, and we want him to do everything he can," Rani Elwy, Ben's mother, said. "And when I walk in this room I feel like he can."

"The has been all these studies done about how your environment effects your recovery," Stefen Nathanson, from the The Room to Dream Foundation, said. "Our goal is basically to give kids who are dealing with [a] chronic illness a place to recover."

Ben was diagnosed with Schwartz-Jampel syndrome, a rare disease that restricts his movements, when he was 22-months old.

The Room to Dream Foundation receives all of its referrals from Children's Hospital Boston and The Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
