Two teenagers raising money to help troops stay in touch with their families

NORWELL, Mass. -- Couple of Norwell teenagers along with help from their parents are showing some serious long distance dedication.

They've been working to help American servicemen and women keep serving overseas in touch with their families for quite awhile.

And now they're little idea is growing.

Teenagers Brittany and Robbie Bergquist love cell phones.

Not just their own, but the ones they've collected to help soldiers stay in touch.

Three years ago they heard about U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan struggling with the expense of calling home.

"I know that if I am away from my family for just a day or two, that it is really hard for me not to hear their voice or see their faces," Brittany said.

So they launched Cell Phones for Soldiers. They held car washes, bake sales, and collected old phones, which they recycle for cash. They use that money to buy phone cards for the troops.

At home, it's an unpaid staff of four: Brittany, Robbie, and their parents.

Almost 30,000 cell phones from around the country pour in every month.

The two teens were honored two years ago for their hard work at Fenway. The Red Sox praised them for the helping troops overseas.

Thanks to Brittany and Robbie troops and their families have been able to talk for thousands of minutes.

By the end of July, Cell Phones for Soldiers drop boxes will be in stores around the country.
