Man convicted in car wreck that left victim paralyzed

LAWRENCE, Mass. -- William Artiss was found guilty and sentenced to six months in jail for negligence and driving without a license on Tuesday.

Artiss was handcuffed and led away after the judge hearing his case delivered the guilty verdict while his victim, Dana Martino, and her family sat in court and watched.

Martino was paralyzed for life when he plowed into her car. Her four-year-old son Mathew survived, however the family dog was killed in the wreck.

The 36-year-old breast cancer survivor was driving home from Massachusetts General Hospital when she pulled over on the side of the road and Artiss rear-ended her.

Martino had hoped that Artiss would get more time, but she says as long as he serves something, that is okay with her.
