Patrick to create veterans services advisory council

BOSTON -- The Patrick administration said Sunday it will create an advisory council on veterans' services to help officials identify the needs of soldiers returning from the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray will chair the council, which will consist of 35 members drawn from an array of existing veterans and human service agencies.

"This council will be a tremendous help in ensuring that state government is fully aware of, and responsive to, the needs of our veterans of all ages and of all wars," Murray said in a prepared statement.

State Secretary of Veterans' Services Tom Kelley said, "I believe that this council is the best way to hear from veterans and learn about both their met and unmet needs."
