Town puts million-dollar painting on the auction block
NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- The discovery of another pricey painting could mean big bucks for one Bay State town.
The work of art, entitled "Under a Kirghiz Tent," by Alexandre Iacovleff, was discovered in the basement of the Attleboro Arts Museum.
The artwork sat unnoticed for decades until the museum manager noticed a similarity with another painting by the same artist that turned up in February at a North Attleboro school.
Although the town is still deciding on whether to sell their painting, the art museum plans to auction "Under a Kirghiz Tent" at Sotheby's London. The painting is valued between $800,000 and $1.2 million.
