State cracks down on identity theft in wake of TJX security breach
BOSTON -- In the wake of the security breach at TJX, the state is cracking down on identity theft.
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley was on hand for a public hearing.
A proposed law targets cases like the one surrounding TJX, in which information was stolen from thousands of customers.
Suggestions for fighting identity theft include:
Companies notifying customers in a more timely manner and allowing customers to place a security freeze on their credit reports.
